Saints clinch NW SA20 title with superb all-round display

Saints Christian School’s unbeaten u/19 girls cricket team can add the accolade of SA20 North-West champions to their name after a convincing win against Matlosana Hub in the final at the J.B. Marks Oval. 🤩🙌🌟

A superb bowling and fielding performance as well as a solid unbeaten half-century from Jessica “Chief” Joshua (50* from 43 balls) took Saints’ u/19 girls cricket team to the North-West title. 🏆

They will now represent North-West during the National tournament to be held later this year.

The foundation for victory was set up with the bat as Saints made 139/5 in their 20 overs. Saints lost two early wickets, but captain, Tshegofatso Monyela, continued her impressive form with a solid 44(36).

Jessica showed leadership in the middle and, together with Diarabilwe Ngubeni 23(18), compiled a superb 52-run partnership in a crucial stage of the match.

Jessica played some fine drives to the boundary in her innings, which included 6 fours at a strike rate of 116.28.

Saints were on top with economic bowling from Gogontle “Gigi” Padi (0/16) in 4 overs and Reabetswe Dithipe (1/13) in 4 overs. Reabetswe also took the key wicket of Lerato Koitokoane (caught and bowled). There were scenes of jubilation when the first wicket fell at 21/1 with everyone both on and off the field celebrating in full voice.

The support got even louder with the fall of each wicket as tight spin bowling from Tshegofatso (2/19) and Siphokazi Duma kept the pressure on Matlosana Hub, who fell more than 30 runs short in the end.

This victory is a testament to the hard work that Saints’ coaches put in to ignite the talent within these girls, who showed big match temperament on the biggest stage in North-West.

We thank the parents and staff for their support which made a massive difference in creating a unified atmosphere today!
