IEB Curriculum

A new era of academic excellence at Saints!

We are officially beginning the process of becoming an IEB school in July 2025.

A few reasons for our move to IEB

  • IEB is of a high standard and is used by the top private
    schools in South Africa.

  • Saints will be the first IEB school in Potchefstroom.

  • There are currently nine schools that are IEB schools in
    North-West.

  • We want the best for our learners.

  • IEB develops higher-order thinking skills.

  • The Department of Basic Education prefers it.

  • It is the best preparation for university and beyond.

  • What is IEB?
    IEB is the Independent Examinations Board, a well-established and respected assessment body, accredited appropriately for its various assessment functions. The main goal of the IEB is to provide private or independent schools with valid and reliable assessments that meets international standards. The IEB is accredited by Umalusi, the South African statutory body responsible for quality assurance for school and adult assessments.
  • What is the IEB Curriculum?
    IEB is not a curriculum the basis is CAPS assessments that promote higher-order thinking and learning.
  • What are the goals of the IEB?
    The IEB makes every effort to ensure that their assessments are globally competitive and that learners have access to assessments that compete at the highest level.
  • Why move to the IEB?

  • Will Saints still be a Christian School?
    Saints will ALWAYS be a Christian School. Bible classes will still be taught More practical activities. Christianity will be woven into the lessons.
  • Will my child receive a National Senior Certificate with IEB?
    Yes, learners are awarded with a National Senior Certificate after completing matric.
  • What is the 2024 IEB Pass Rate
    98.47% National Senior Certificate pass rate, the highest in 5 years. 89.37% of learners achieving entry to degree study.
  • Is IEB/NSC internationally recognised?
    Yes. The IEB (NSC) qualification is benchmarked by UK ENIC. The NSC is considered/comparable to GCE Advanced Subsidiary (AS) level standard.
  • How will the implementation of IEB affect the teaching methods at Saints?
    Teaching will be focused on using CAPS as a guide, but the preparation will be catered to the IEB Assessments, which are different than the DBE Assessments. The IEB has its own Subject Assessment Guidelines (SAGs). This includes examination papers, oral and practical requirements and school-based assessment requirements. The IEB curriculum also allows for greater customisation and specialisation, in tailoring the curriculum to our specific needs as a Christian school.
  • Will the Matric Class of 2025 write IEB examinations?
    No, the first class who will write the IEB examination will be our current Grade 9 learners.
  • Why will the Matric Class of 2025 not write IEB Examinations?
    IEB covers the whole FET phase from Grade 10 to 12. A learner must start with IEB in Grade 10 in order for them to be able to write the IEB examination in Grade 12. Our current Grade 10 to 12 learners will matriculate with an American High School Diploma.
  • How will the registration process work?
    We may only advertise that we are an IEB school once we are registered with them Start with CAPS Register with UMALUSI and IEB
  • What will happen to my child’s laptop?
    Laptops will still be used for projects, research, computer classes, email, etc.
  • Will the fees increase with the implementation of IEB?
    No, fees will not increase due to the implementation of the new curriculum.
